Maala Bhatt

MD, MSc(Epi)

Maala is an Assistant Professor of Paediatrics at the University of Ottawa and Director of Emergency Research at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO). Maala obtained her medical degree from McMaster University in 1996, completed Paediatric Residency at Dalhousie University in 2000 and Paediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship at McGill University in 2004. She also completed a Master’s of Science in Epidemiology at McGill University (2008) and holds a certificate in Improvement Science from Cincinnati Children’s Hospital (2014). She has held faculty positions in emergency medicine at the Montreal Children’s Hospital (McGill University), The Hospital for Sick Children (University of Toronto) and now at CHEO (University of Ottawa). Maala is passionate about improving care systems to optimize patient outcomes. Her primary research interest is in the safety of emergency department procedural sedation however she has published on a variety of topics common to paediatric emergency medicine.
