SickKids Paediatric Emergency Procedural Sedation Program

This course is limited to 21 participants

The SickKids Paediatric Procedural Sedation Program provides a comprehensive approach to assessment and management of children undergoing procedural sedation in the emergency setting. Participants of this program will acquire working knowledge of appropriate sedative and analgesic agents, gain skills to manage potential adverse events and practice procedural sedation in a simulated setting.

Learning Objectives:

  • Discuss recent advancements in paediatric procedural sedation.
  • Select sedative agents based on clinical indications, safety profiles, and desired sedation levels.
  • Implement procedural sedation in children following established safety guidelines.
  • Recognize and manage potential adverse events during pediatric procedural sedation.

  • Paediatric Emergency Physicians, Family Physicians, Emergency Physicians, Paediatricians
  • Nurses, Nurse Practitioners, Respiratory Therapists, Physician Assistants, Residents

Pre-Program requirements: Paediatric Emergency Procedural Sedation Handbook (the handbook will be mailed in advance to participants)

Certificate of Completion: Issued upon successful completion of the program and multiple-choice examination with a minimum score of 70%.

Paediatric Emergency Procedural and Resuscitation Course (PEPRC)

7:45AM – 4:45PM

This course is limited to 24 participants.

This pre-conference course delivers advanced skills in an innovative ‘flipped classroom’ format. Using deliberate practice and competency-based training, participants will be able to achieve mastery in these critical Paediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM) skills.

Learning Objectives:

  • Discuss components of effective team training including role definition, communication, leadership and situational awareness (Crisis Resource Management or CRM).
  • Recognize and manage acute paediatric emergencies including children presenting with shock, neonatal, cardiac and CNS emergencies.
  • Practice paediatric emergency procedural skills including airway management, percutaneous needle tracheostomy, intraosseous insertion (tibia and shoulder), and chest tube insertion.

How to Navigate the Website:

There are 3 Sections: CRM, Resuscitation, Procedures

  • CRM (Crisis Resource Management) content will cover core topics in team functioning and will be reinforced by the morning lecture.
  • Procedures and Resuscitation core content will be available and accessed prior to the conference. Each module will provide key learning materials, videos, clinical guidelines, and competency checklists.
